Matt Walthour has owned the Island Bike Shop on Marco Island since 1997 and Naples Bike Shop since 2002, He credits a lot of the shop’s success to the island’s network of in-road bike lanes and shared-use paths and his overall passion for all things bicycle.
Cycling is in Matt Walthour’s blood. It goes back to his great-grandfather, Bobby Walthour, a Multiple World Champion, his Grandfather Bobby Walthour Jr, who was a multiple Six- Day cycling Champion and also a few accomplished cousins in the cycling world.
“When people ask me why I don’t race,” Walthour says, “I tell them it’s a lot easier to fix them than to ride them. But, bicycling has pretty much been my life. I’ve been a lucky kid.”
